Unsure which size RAM ProMaster to use for your DM Vans conversion? Dave Ramsay, co-owner at DM Vans, is here to walk you through the three options available for 2025—LV3, LV5, and LV7—so you can pick the best fit for your lifestyle and budget.
Getting Started
Unsure which size RAM ProMaster to use for your DM Vans conversion? Dave Ramsay, co-owner at DM Vans, is here to talk you through the three distinct options in our 2025 lineup:
1. RAM ProMaster 136” WB → LV3
2. RAM ProMaster 159” WB → LV5
3. RAM ProMaster 159” EXT WB → LV7
At DM Vans, we exclusively build on high-roof RAM ProMasters for their capability, accessibility, and simplified maintenance—values that resonate with our mission to make van life accessible. Each model—LV3, LV5, LV7—shares the same roof height and interior width, but length differs between the vehielces. If you’d like a quick way to compare all three, check out our Van Finder tool to see side-by-side stats and recommended use cases.
Whether you’re after a nimble weekend camper or a spacious full-time residence on wheels, we have an option to match your needs. Each van tends to get 16–20 mpg post build-out, with LV3 near the higher end and LV7 near the lower end. Let’s dive into each option, covering all the critical interior dimensions, benefits, and typical build layouts.

RAM ProMaster 136” Wheelbase (LV3)
The 136” WB ProMaster—the shortest configuration—serves as the foundation for our LV3 builds. This smaller footprint (about 17’9” in length) makes it exceptionally easy to maneuver and park, similar to a short-bed pickup. You’ll commonly find it offered in both the 1500 and 2500 variants, which share the same engine and towing capacity, differing only in springs and brake specs.
Is the 136” WB Big Enough?
If you’re a solo traveler or a couple seeking a nimble, efficient camper van, LV3 might be your best fit. Its width-wise bed (60” x 70”) suits individuals up to around 5’10” comfortably. You can still seat up to 4 passengers (with our rear-seat upgrade), but full-time living for more than 2 people can feel a bit tight. On the plus side, the LV3 can still pack all the DM Vans essentials—kitchen, storage, and sleeping area—so you can explore without hauling unnecessary bulk.
Co-founder Matt Felser lived in a 136” ProMaster for two summers and called it “everything I needed for #vanlife and nothing I didn’t”. If your priority is easy parking, minimal fuss, and an agile daily driver/weekend getaway, the LV3 fits the bill perfectly.
Best For:
• 1–2 travelers or minimalist couples
• Weekend getaways or shorter trips
• Those with limited parking, including city dwellers

RAM ProMaster 159” Wheelbase (LV5)
The 159” WB ProMaster is our Swiss army knife of van builds, forming the basis of our LV5. At about 19’8” in total length, it’s only slightly longer than a standard parking space—still relatively simple to manage in towns and on highways—yet provides extra interior space for more comfortable living.
Flexibility & Comfort
Compared to the LV3, the LV5 has a broader range of layout possibilities. Opt for a bed up to 70” x 80” front-to-back, or keep a 60” x 70” bed width-wise and add our rear dinette system with two storage benches and a Lagun table, comfortably seating up to 4. If you travel with kids or friends, we can install a 1- or 2-person rear seat to handle additional passengers safely.
Despite being a bit larger than the 136” version, the 159” WB ProMaster still boasts an impressively tight turning radius—ideal for those wanting extra space without driving a massive rig.
Who’s It For?
• Families or those needing a bit more interior space
• Extended road trips, part-time or full-time living
• Anyone wanting increased amenities (dinette, bigger bed) while remaining maneuverable

RAM ProMaster 159” EXT Wheelbase (LV7)
The 159” EXT Wheelbase ProMaster sits a foot longer than the standard 159” version, shaping our LV7. At approximately 20’10.5”, it still features the ProMaster’s excellent handling and turning radius—unlike a typical Class B RV, you won’t feel out of place at your local grocery store or trailhead.
Maximum Living Space
If you’re on the road full-time, have a family, or just want more breathing room, LV7 is your best bet. Being exclusively built on a 3500 chassis, it includes upgraded suspension, brakes, and a sway bar for a smoother highway ride—even with the added length and weight. You can still run a full bed front-to-back or and add a roomy dinette for 4 people. It’s a popular choice for those who need to blend work, play, and home in a single vehicle.
Ideal For:
• Full-time van lifers
• Families needing extra seats or storage
• Taller travelers wanting a larger bed
• Extended trips with more amenities

Conclusion
Every one of our 2025 Lifestyle Vehicles®—LV3 (136”), LV5 (159”), LV7 (159” EXT)—brings unique advantages. The best fit depends on your travel style, passenger count, parking constraints, and which features matter most to you.
